What are the average fees charged by Long Day Care services in Australia?

The fees charged by child care services vary across different areas of Australia and between states and territories. Variations in fees are due to a number of factors including different State and Territory licensing requirements that determine child/staff ratios, accommodation costs and whether the fee includes charges for additional services such as nappies, meals and educations programs.

The table below shows the average daily fees charged by Long Day Care (LDC) services at 31 July 2008 in each state/territory and across different remoteness. The table includes only Australian Government approved LDC services who voluntarily reported fee information for the mychild.gov.au website.

The Minister for Education has recently written to all services asking them to update their fee information on the website. This table will be amended when updates are available.

It should be noted that:

• The fees in the table are an average and are therefore an indication only. The fees reported in the table do not reflect the variation in fees for different age groups. For information on the fees charged by individual services, visit http://ifp.mychild.gov.au.

• Some LDC services would have included costs for additional provisions such as nappies, meals and education programs in the fees they reported.

• Fees do not include Child Care Benefit (CCB) or Child Care Tax Rebate (CCTR) reductions.
