National Information Agreement on Early Childhood and Care

States and territories, the Commonwealth and national data agencies have taken important steps towards improving the quality of childhood education and care information by developing a National Information Agreement on Early Childhood Education and Care

By establishing a national agreement for collecting, sharing and reporting data related to children, families and early childhood development services, the Information Agreement aims to build a solid evidence base for Australian Early Education and Care.

The information agreement will support monitoring and reporting arrangements of Council of Australian Governments (COAG) reforms in early childhood. It is especially important for the delivery of universal access to quality early childhood education in the year before full time schooling under the National Partnership Agreement on Early Childhood Education, and the Closing the Gap agenda for Indigenous children.

A key outcome of the information agreement will be developing a national early childhood education and care data collection for these purposes. A copy of the information agreement is available on the Early Childhood Development page on the MCEECDYA website.
