Supporting healthy and resilient children through the AEDI

The Minister for Early Childhood, Peter Garrett visited Perth's Roseworth Primary School on 17 May 2011 to talk about the Australian Government's Budget commitment to ongoing national implementation of the Australian Early Development Index (AEDI).

The Australian Early Development Index (AEDI) - a world first study of its kind-will give governments and communities a better understanding of how well prepared children are for school and assist in planning services and support for the early years. This year's Budget commitment brings the Australian Government's total investment in the AEDI to $51.2 million over five years.

The data from the first national implementation is already being used to improve the lives of children and support a holistic approach to change, encouraging greater communication by education, health and community service agencies.

The AEDI will enable communities and governments to focus their efforts on particular areas, to determine what we need to do to support the growth and development of healthy and resilient children.
